Our dining hall is the largest building on our private Belize island, Long Caye at Glover’s Reef. The center of island life, it is complete with solar-powered lights, propane stove and refrigerators (cold beer and soda!), and our ever-growing library and game selection. It is a huge space with fantastic views of the lagoon and a neighboring island. There is no dress code, and you don’t

Our Belize travel season is in full swing; we are on our 5th week of a 24-week season. Christmas is the craziest time of year for international travel and this season is definitely no exception. Already, with only 15% of our guests either in Belize or just returned home, we have experienced the following: a single traveler who arrived on the island 2 days late due to a cancelled flight, stranding

Caracol Mayan ruin is located south of the Belizean city of San Ignacio. Caracol is the most magnificent Maya site in Belize, and in fact one of the largest in the Maya world. It is not as extensively restored as other sites because it was completely lost in the rainforest for over 1000 years until its discovery in 1937. The first archaeologist who studied Caracol soon after its discovery named it

On top of all the other new additions to our eco-resort island paradise we’ve posted about this month, one in particular promises to enhance birding in belize: our new osprey nest platform. Here’s a picture of our pre-season building crew erecting our newest platform just out from the beach in front of the kitchen palapa.

Paddleboarding in the Caribbean is amazingly easy, especially when outfitted with all the newest gear. Each year, as we get our eco-resort island paradise ready for the coming season, we drive down a truckload (which then becomes a boatload) of the latest gear. This year’s haul included a “quiver” of the newest, state-of-the-art stand up paddleboards shown here resting in a newly

Adventure Island on Long Caye in Belize is one of the best Caribbean kiteboarding locations you can find. Just ask a pro. More specifically, our pro — Slickrock kiteboarding instructor Meg Griffiths, pictured here catching some big air a few weeks ago at the beginning of Slickrock’s 2013 – 2014 season.

This summer, I was traveling in Maui, Hawaii and decided to take the famous hike up past the lava tubes, through the dark and clattering bamboo forest to the “seven sacred pools” of ‘Ohe’o Gulch (aka Haleakala National Park Kipahulu). There, in addition to a lot of signs warning insane people where exactly the spots were that people like them should not jump into the pools from,

I spend all day helping people plan their Belize vacation, and I love telling people about Punta Gorda, the southernmost town in Belize. They are still largely “undiscovered”, and it feels like you have ventured back 30 years before Belize was a well-known international travel destination. Located right in downtown Punta Gorda you will find one of the best places to say in the area, th

From the Hollywood Reporter – On Wednesday, one of the most entertaining lawsuits of the year was filed in Illinois federal court. It comes from Dr. Jaime Awe, director of the Institute of Archeology of Belize. This real-life Indiana Jones is suing on behalf of the nation of Belize over the Crystal Skull artifact, popularized in the 2008 Steven Spielberg film “Indiana Jones and the Kin
