This article in the New York Times highlights recent discovers about a particularly unique jellyfish, Turritopsis dohrnii, more commonly known as the immortal jellyfish. Even though we don’t see this species down in Belize, we do see two varieties at Glover’s Reef, the Upside Down Jellyfish and the Sea Thimble Jellyfish. They are discussed in this post following the brief excerpt from

Okay, so this isn’t specific to Belize, but being the only surf center in Belize with direct shore access to a surf break we’re pretty much just crazy about anything cool or new that’s happening in the surf world. So we were pretty excited about this new video put out by GoPro, the folks who make those cool small, lightweight, waterproof, and self contained video cameras designed

Belize is famous for it’s underground rivers, the most amazing example of which is probably The Caves Branch River. We include a floating river tour of The Caves Branch River in our Belize Adventure Week package. But apparently, Belize is not the only place with such amazing natural wonders — witness Puerto Princesa Underground River in the Philippines: The Puerto Princesa Subterranea

Submerged Crocodile is the ancient Mayan name of the site; the name was recorded by two Spanish priests. The city occupies 950 acres and 700+ struc

Yesterday we blogged about The Inn at Chaa Creek, our favorite lodge in western Belize. If you are staying in the Cayo region, you won’t want to miss a visit to Cahal Pech. It’s very easy to get to, it is just a 20-minute walk from downtown San Ignacio, and overlooks the town. This small Mayan complex has undergone extensive restoration. Cahal Pech was the royal acropolis-palace of an

There are lots of great places to stay in Cayo, Belize (near the city of San Ignacio), but our favorite is Chaa Creek. This 345 acre private nature reserve contains not only the loveliest jungle lodge in Belize, but also the coolest safari style camp in the country, a rainforest medicine trail where medicines are made from jungle plants, a natural history museum, a butterfly farm, and a top rated

The D’Nest Inn is located in a quiet neighborhood just a few blocks from the Northern Highway, about 3 miles from downtown Belize City. Many of our guests stay here when arriving a few days early because it is close to our base at the Biltmore Plaza Hotel. This private home is a great alternative to other Belize City lodging options. Run by the owners, Gaby and Oty, this two-story home is su
