Flying to Belize

What’s the best way to find Belize flights? After years of advising people about Belize travel arrangements, we summarize the options and strategies this way: What airlines fly to Belize? There are not that many options for flying to Belize because it’s a small country and there are only a few flights/day, and all go through the United States. There are no direct flights from Europe or Canada.

Have kayak, will travel

Our kayak travel trips cover a wide range of kayaking skills, using a variety of boats. We base out of our island, Long Caye at Glover’s Reef, located 35 miles offshore in Belize. On our adventure tours we teach sea kayaking, surf kayaking, snorkeling from kayaks, kayak rolling, kayak fishing, and we have both single and double kayaks. Inland in the jungle we also teach river kayaking and UN

Hurricane repairs continue

Earlier I posted “before” and “after” shots of our surf dock (the dock where we sit and watch the surfers from, while enjoying a cold Belikin) that got damaged this fall during Hurricane Matthew. The dock has been fixed, along with a lot of other building currently going on on the island.

New Belize windsurf center coming together

I heard from Cully today, he’s been out on the island supervising the building of our new Vela windsports center. The new windsurf rack full of all new sails has just been completed. I know this made Cully happy to see this much cool new windsurf gear on the island! He reports they are also working on the new kiteboard cabin, as well as fixing some hurricane damaged facilities.

Remodeling our island cabanas

Cully is down in Belize and sent me some images from the ongoing building projects from last week. We are doubling the size of one of our Belize accommodations, our beach cabana we call Iguanaville. Iguanaville has always been one of our most private cabanas, and now it will be twice as large. Here are some before and during shots… I don’t have any “after” ones yet.

New watersports equipment for the island

Every year in September Cully starts to order new gear for the island. For weeks cool stuff pours in to our Moab shed. This year we had to order more than usual; with the new wind center we had to invest at least $20K in kite and windsurf equipment. Cully was in heavan! Here are some shots of our new truck and trailer being loaded, in my front yard in Moab. We bought many new kites, and several ki

Glovers Reef now in full detail on Google Earth

For years we have been frustrated with the resolution of Glovers Reef Atoll on Google Earth. It has always been too blurry to be able to even see the islands. We just realized that it has finally been updated and you now can easily see our island, “The Wall” dive site, the patch reefs where we snorkel, our surf zone and even our docks! Long Caye is the island on the left in the image b

More before/after hurricane images

Here are some more comparisons of before and after Tropical Storm Matthew. First, the incredible disappearing sand bar! Next, a good example of typical hurricane beach cleanup. and finally, our surf dock and what can happen to it in a storm. This is nothing… this is our 3rd surf dock, the other 2 were completely wiped out in past storms.
